The lighthouse is the focal point of the island, offering panoramic views of the ocean from atop it in the lantern room. It truly comes alive at dusk, illuminating the area. The island offers adventure like no other with its western side covered in trees to explore and 100-foot cliffs while its eastern side offers mile-long beaches perfect for swimming, kayaking and fishing from. In a book about the property Bill Baker wrote, "why is an island with a lighthouse upon it such a magical place? Perhaps it is because it is a safe haven - something fathomable and friendly, far from the uncertainty of modern life; a place where one can feel in control of one's surroundings in a chaotic and complex world" - but you will have to visit the island yourself to truly discover its magic.
